Social media can be very cruel at times and it certainly leaves the victim in a sad and confused state. Recently, the news of demise of former Zimbabwean cricketer, Heath Streak went viral on the Internet and soon the social media platforms were flooded with reactions. Even the current Zimbabwean cricket team skipper Sean Williams and former Zimbabwean cricketer Henry Olonga also paid their tributes on X (formerly Twitter) but later on, it was revealed that it was fake news.
Heath Streak is not well but he is still alive, he is suffering from colon and liver cancer (Stage 4) but he is doing well as of now. Heath Streak’s daughter confirmed that her father is alive, former Proteas cricketer Herschelle Gibbs shared a screenshot of the statement made by Heath Streaks’ daughter.
Heath Streak also reacts to rumours of his death and here is what he told Mid-Day, “It is a total rumour and a lie. I’m alive and well. I am very upset to learn that something as big as someone apparently passing can be spread unverified especially in our day and age of social media, I believe the source should apologise. I am hurt by the news.”
Later on, all those who had paid tribute to Heath Streak apologized and Heath Streak said this to a sports magazine, “People should be a bit more careful before spreading such rumours. I am better now and recovering from cancer.”
He added, “I am at home and obviously there’s still a bit of strain because of the treatment. But otherwise I am fine. Suddenly I get to know that people have started talking about my death, as someone shared it on social media. But that was not all correct. I am recovering and feeling a lot better…”
Well, be cautious guys before sharing any news about anyone.
