India Seals Series With Dominant 7-Wicket Win Over Bangladesh In 2nd Test At Kanpur

India secured a resounding 7-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second Test at Kanpur on Tuesday, completing a 2-0 series sweep. The win came thanks to stellar bowling performances from Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja, who each claimed three wickets, restricting Bangladesh to a modest total of 146 in their second innings. India then comfortably chased down the 95-run target, with Yashasvi Jaiswal contributing his second half-century of the match.

This victory is particularly remarkable given the adverse weather conditions that delayed play. Rain had threatened to cost India six crucial points in the World Test Championship (WTC), as an entire day was washed out, and another lost due to a wet outfield. However, India displayed extraordinary resilience, wrapping up the Test match in just seven sessions, over two and a half days.

When play resumed on Day 4, the final result was still uncertain. However, India’s batting unit took charge, launching an aggressive counterattack that left Bangladesh reeling. India declared their first innings at 285/9 in just 34.4 overs, setting a commanding tone for the rest of the match. This quickfire innings saw India achieve milestones, including becoming the fastest team to score 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 runs in a Test innings.

After being forced to follow on with a 52-run deficit, Bangladesh found themselves struggling from the outset. Despite putting up a fight, they lost two wickets with just 26 runs on the board by the end of Day 4. On the final day, India entered as the overwhelming favorites, while Bangladesh needed to produce a historic batting display to secure a draw – a task that proved too difficult.

India’s bowling attack, led by Bumrah, Ashwin, and Jadeja, decimated Bangladesh’s batting lineup, leaving no room for a comeback. With consistent pressure from all three bowlers, Bangladesh was dismissed for 146, setting India up for an easy chase. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s solid performance, scoring his second half-century of the match, helped India complete the chase with ease.

This victory adds valuable points to India’s tally in the ongoing WTC cycle, bolstering their standing. Despite the rain setbacks, India’s determination ensured they maximized their chances, securing a comprehensive win and earning significant momentum going forward.
