In a horrific incident, a 25 years old Indian named Vivek Saini was killed by a homeless drug addict in a departmental store in Lithonia city, Georgia where Saini used to work part-time.
Vivek Saini was basically from Bhagwanpur, a village in Haryana and he was a management graduate from Alabama University. He was scheduled to fly to India on 25 Jan for the first time since 2022 when he went to USA and he did come to India but sadly in a body bag. While Vivek was coming from USA, his elder sister was coming from New Zealand on the same day and they both were scheduled to meet on Delhi airport from where they would have gone to their house together.
As per the reports, on 16 January, the staff at the store allowed the homeless man, James Faulkner (53 yrs) to come and stay inside the store for some time as it was very cold outside. James was provided with edible items along with a jacket as he was feeling cold but when Vivek Saini asked him to leave as Saini was also leaving, the homeless man hit the Indian national with a hammer around 50 times.
The culprit was arrested by the police; Vivek’s cousin who also lived in USA came with Vivek’s body and now his family is regretting the decision of sending him to USA. A family member said, “We regret sending him to the US. Initially, there was a plan for Vivek to join his sister in New Zealand, but he later changed his mind and pursued MBA at Alabama University in 2022.”
Though the family is calling it a hate crime, the police officials are not divulging much detail about the crime.
This is really sad and we hope that the culprit gets a strict punishment. RIP.
