Olympic javelin star Neeraj Chopra, known for his gold and silver medal wins, has captured the attention of sports fans and filmmakers alike. While a Bollywood biopic about his journey is highly anticipated, Neeraj himself believes it is too early to tell his story on screen. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, the athlete shared his thoughts on the possibility of a biopic and who he thinks should portray him if one were to be made.
When asked about a potential biopic, Neeraj emphasized that such films should come after an athlete retires, allowing for the full scope of their contributions to be captured. “I feel biopics should be made after a person retires,” he said. He added that he still aims to achieve more in his career and make javelin throwing more popular in India. “Jitna aur add kar sakein career mein, country ke liye kuch kar sakein aur javelin ko apne desh mein aur popular kar sake utna acha hoga,” Neeraj stated, highlighting his goal of further promoting the sport before his story is made into a film.
Neeraj also weighed in on which actor he feels would best portray him on screen. Without hesitation, he suggested Randeep Hooda, praising the actor’s skills and connection to Haryana, Neeraj’s home state. “I can only think of Randeep Hooda. He is a great actor and he is from Haryana,” Neeraj remarked. He further emphasized the importance of accurately representing his native language and cultural background, saying, “Jo bhi role play karega woh wahan ki language sahi se bole woh zaroori hai.”
Randeep Hooda, known for his powerful performances in biographical films like Sarbjit, last appeared in Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. His experience in portraying real-life figures makes him a strong candidate for a potential biopic on Neeraj Chopra, adding to fans’ excitement for the possibility of seeing Neeraj’s journey on the big screen.
While a Neeraj Chopra biopic may still be some time away, the athlete’s inspiring career continues to motivate the nation and stoke curiosity about how his story will eventually unfold in cinema.
