The Indian cricket team has once again scripted history by attaining the number one rankings in ODIs after defeating the Aussies in the first ODI of the 3-match series which was played yesterday at Mohali. What makes this feat rare and unique in the history of rankings is the fact that the Indian team was already number one in T20I and test rankings and now it is the number one team in all the three formats which is certainly a great achievement.
As far as the match is concerned, the Aussies put up a score of 276 runs in 50 overs after they were asked to bat first by the hosts. David Warner was the highest scorer for Australia as he scored 52 runs and he was well supported by Steve Smith who played a good innings of 41 runs. But India put up a great batting show in response as openers – Ruturaj Gaikwad (71 runs) and Shubman Gill (74 runs) stitched a partnership of 142 runs for the first wicket. The stand-in skipper KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav scored fifties and team India chased the target successfully in the 49th over at the loss of 5 wickets.
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami was adjudged as the Player of the Match as he took 5 wickets in his 10 overs and gave 51 runs.
Becoming number one across all the formats is definitely awesome, isn’t it?
