Indian Woman Prefers San Francisco Over Bengaluru

“Viba Mohan, who is from Bengaluru, explained why she believes moving to the United States is the best decision for her career and personal development.

An Indian woman who recently received an O1 work visa for the United States has explained why she believes moving from Bengaluru to the United States is the best decision for her personal and professional development.

Viba Mohan, a product designer, outlined four reasons why she chose to relocate to the United States for the next several years. Mohan cited culture as her number one reason, saying she admires the “wild, relentless optimism” of the United States.

“Everyone is excited about the possibilities, and if you fail, you can try again! The second quality is craftsmanship. It’s all about perfecting your craft, and the vibe is contagious,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The second compelling reason is safety, both professionally and on the streets.

“It’s refreshing to work without having to tiptoe around a colleague who is obsessed with you and knows no boundaries. And the freedom to go for a walk or a run without constantly looking over my shoulder?” she asked, adding that living in a safe environment not only makes you feel calmer but also more productive.

Mohan also explained why she did not apply for the highly sought-after H-1B visa for skilled workers, which is popular among Indian tech workers.

“The visa process is a nightmare. I knew I wasn’t going to commit to an H-1B or spend a fortune on a master’s degree just to move here. “Getting the O1 and the freedom that comes with it made this a lot easier,” she explained.

Finally, Mohan compared Bengaluru’s start-up ecosystem to that of San Francisco, claiming that fin-tech and e-commerce dominate India’s IT capital’s start-up scene.

“There is no doubt that Bangalore has some brilliant minds! But what about the technology scene? It’s frequently about fintech, last mile, and e-commerce—the usual suspects. It’s changing, which is great, but what are the problems that interest me the most? “They’re still being solved in San Francisco,” she explained.
