India all-rounder Ramandeep Singh has shared insights into how Mumbai Indians (MI) use advanced technology to gain an advantage in the IPL. The franchise relies on a specialized app called Sports Always, which contains a vast video data collection, allowing players to study their opponents in detail. Having played for MI in 2022 before moving to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Ramandeep highlighted how the app provides in-depth analysis for players from the comfort of their homes.
In an interview, when asked about the difference between MI and KKR, Ramandeep pointed out that MI places immense focus on planning for every player. “MI plan very well, for any and every player,” he explained. “They have a specific app, Sports Always, their own internal app. In it, if you want to look up any player, whether he’s playing domestic or international cricket or anything anywhere around the world — you write his name and any bowler’s name, and you’ll get all the videos of that batter facing that bowler. For example, I’ll write batsman — Ramandeep Singh, bowler — Jasprit Bumrah, I’ll get all the videos of Ramandeep Singh playing against Jasprit Bumrah.”
IPL 2024 marked a breakout season for Ramandeep. While his overall score was just 125 runs, his impactful cameos at a staggering strike rate of 201.61 played a crucial role in helping KKR secure their third IPL title. Recognizing his contributions, the franchise retained him for Rs. 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Further in the interview, Ramandeep revealed that he had received much bigger offers before the auction but chose to stay with KKR due to his deep affection for the team.
