Is GPay service being shut down? Know what Google says

Google Pay will not be available from June 4, 2024. It aims to simplify payments, remove peer-to-peer payments, manage Google Pay balances, and remove “find offers and deals” from the service. GPay balances can still be transferred to bank accounts.

Google Pay will not be available from June 4, 2024, the search engine giant said. Although Google Pay was replaced by Google Wallet in 2022, it remained operational in several countries. The company’s latest move simplifies payment methods.

In India and Singapore, the company will continue to offer Google Pay due to their unique needs. Google’s latest announcement targets the U.S. standalone Google Pay app.

To simplify the app experience, Google announced in a blog post that the U.S. standalone Google Pay app will be discontinued on June 4, 2024.

“And for the millions of people who use the Google Pay app in India and Singapore, nothing will change as we continue to build for their unique needs,” Google says.

Google will also remove P2P payments, Google Pay balance management, and “find offers and deals” as part of the process. U.S. GPay app users using “find offers and deals” can now search for new deals destinations, per the company’s recommendation.

The Google Pay website will also allow affected users to transfer GPay balances to bank accounts after June 4, 2024.

The company claims millions of users in over 180 countries use Google Wallet, which replaced GPay. Google Wallet stores transport passes, state IDs, driver’s licenses, virtual car keys, and credit and debit card payments. Google Wallet will offer Google Pay in the U.S. after June 4, 2024.
