A concerning trend has emerged in Bollywood, with actors Jaideep Ahlawat and Manoj Bajpayee recently highlighting a surprising difficulty among many of today’s performers: an inability to read scripts written in Hindi. Jaideep Ahlawat, expressing his dismay to Filmfare, found it particularly shocking that actors from Hindi-speaking regions, working in Hindi films, are reportedly unable to decipher the Devanagari script.
Jaideep Ahlawat articulated his astonishment, stating, “I was shocked to see actors can’t read scripts in Hindi while acting in Hindi movies.” He further elaborated on his disbelief, saying, “Main itna surprise ho gaya main mazaak nahi kar raha hoon. Likhi hui Hindi actors ko padhne nahi aati. Agar wo Devanagari mein likha hua hai toh wo nahi padh sakta.”
He lamented the situation, remarking, “Isse bura kuch nahi ho sakta. Agar koi South India se hai toh dikkat nahi hai, but Hindi bhashik actor Hindi nahi padh sakta. Har dusre word pe fumble hai.” Jaideep Ahlawat pointed out the ironic contrast: while these actors struggle with Devanagari, they are proficient in reading scripts presented in the Roman script. As he put it, “Roman mein denge toh padh lenge.”
This revelation by Jaideep Ahlawat has rapidly gained traction across social media platforms, especially Reddit, sparking considerable discussion. One user on Reddit recalled a similar instance, writing, “On the latest Koffee with Karan season, Saif did not know a Hindi word or something, and Sharmila Tagore rebuked him that he, being a Hindi film actor, doesn’t understand Hindi. It is a shame.”
Another commenter speculated on the actor being referred to, asking, “Is he talking about Saif? lmao.” A third person confidently added, “I’m 100 per cent sure that he is talking about Saif Ali Khan.
