Actor Vijay Varma recently discussed his experience with vitiligo, a skin condition that causes patches of skin to lose color or pigment. In an interview with The Times of India, Vijay shared that while he covers his vitiligo for his movie roles, he chooses not to hide it during public appearances. He also mentioned that there was a period when the condition caused him concern.
Reflecting on his journey, Vijay said, “I didn’t make a big deal out of it. It’s just a cosmetic issue and doesn’t really change the course of your life. We often magnify its importance because it’s visible, but I’ve never seen it as a major issue. It did worry me when I was an out-of-work actor, and I wondered if it could become an obstacle. But since I’ve been working and finding success, it hasn’t bothered me.”
He further explained, “I cover it up in my movies because it can be distracting; I want the audience to focus on what I am portraying. But for public appearances, I’ve never felt the need to hide it. People today are very understanding, and I feel that the current generation has a sense of responsibility. I’ve never faced negative comments about my skin condition. Maybe in another era, it could have been a topic of discussion.”
Vijay Varma will soon appear in the upcoming web series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack in which he will portray a pilot.
