As Indian skipper Rohit Sharma rejoins the team for the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar feels that the team is likely to retain KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal as the opening pair.
Rohit Sharma missed the first Test in Perth, where India secured a commanding 295-run victory, to be with his wife Ritika Sajdeh for the birth of their son, Ahaan. During his absence, pacer Jasprit Bumrah led the side, and KL Rahul joined debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top of the batting order. The pair delivered a strong performance, contributing significantly to India’s win.
In the recent practice match against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI, Rohit batted at No. 4, while Rahul and Jaiswal continued to open the innings, fueling speculation about the team’s strategy for the upcoming Test.
While speaking on a show, Sanjay Manjrekar analyzed the team’s approach, calling it a “clear indication” of the management’s confidence in the current opening pair.
“Yes, for me it’s a clear indication. I thought of maybe a few other things why they would do that. But this is, I think, as clear as it gets. The very successful opening pair in the second innings of the last match made an important contribution. So yeah, a very clear indication,” Manjrekar said.
We also feel that Jaiswal and Rahul should open for India, what do you think?
