Tensions seem to be brewing in the Indian cricket dressing room following their defeat to Australia in the Melbourne Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Reports suggest that head coach Gautam Gambhir has issued a stern ultimatum to the players, warning that he won’t hesitate to drop those who fail to align with his strategies.
According to a leading publication, Gambhir addressed the team after Australia’s commanding 184-run victory at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which gave them a 2-1 lead in the series. In a firm tone, Gambhir reportedly stated, “Bahut ho gaya (I’ve had enough),” expressing frustration over the team’s underwhelming performance.
While avoiding direct criticism, Gambhir emphasized that players were not adapting to match situations and, in the name of their “natural game,” were disregarding the established game plan.
The former India opener further declared that moving forward, he will dictate the team’s playing style, having allowed them significant freedom over the past six months. He made it clear that players unwilling to comply with his vision would face the axe.
Gambhir’s shift in approach comes after repeated batting collapses, including the recent 0-3 loss in the home series against New Zealand. The defeat in Melbourne seems to have been the tipping point, leading the coach to take a tougher stance in a bid to turn the team’s fortunes around.
