Jasprit Bumrah Reveals The Reason Behind Rohit Sharma’s Absence In 5th Test

The fifth and final Test of the ongoing five-match series between India and Australia is being held at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who has struggled to make an impact in the last three matches, is not participating in this final encounter.

In his absence, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has taken up the captaincy for the Indian team. Jasprit Bumrah, currently ranked No. 1 in the ICC Test bowler rankings, also led the team in the series opener at Optus Stadium in Perth from November 22 to 25, when Rohit Sharma was unavailable due to personal reasons.

At the toss, Jasprit Bumrah spoke with former India head coach Ravi Shastri, shedding light on Rohit’s decision to sit out and his own role in stepping up as captain. “Our skipper has opted to rest. It shows the unity we have,” Bumrah remarked. His leadership record includes one victory in two matches as captain, highlighting his capability in this role.

The Sydney Test holds immense significance for India. A win is crucial not only to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but also to secure a spot in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 against South Africa at Lord’s. The stakes are high as the team fights to keep their campaign alive.
