Political groups have condemned the killing of three civilians in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district and have protested, calling for justice for the victims. Three individuals were detained by the army for interrogation hours later; their remains were found on Friday. At least seven other people who were taken into custody were hurt and sent to a hospital to receive medical attention.
A day after a significant terrorist assault on the army that resulted in the deaths of four soldiers and the injuries of three more, more than a dozen individuals from the Gujjar community were taken into custody. The army said in a statement that search efforts are underway and that the situation is being looked into. Following the fatalities, there was unrest in the area, and internet connectivity was cut down in the districts of Poonch and Rajouri. To quell any demonstrations, more police and paramilitary personnel have been stationed in the Surankote and Bafliaz districts. Additionally, highways leading to Bafliaz have been blocked.
Today, the government said that the tragedy will be investigated legally and that the families will get compensation. Three civilian deaths were recorded in Baffliaz, Poonch District, yesterday. The relevant authorities have started legal action in this case once the medicolegal procedures are completed, according to an administration statement. Amid an ongoing effort to find the terrorists responsible for the assault, troops captured more than a dozen men in the Bufliaz neighborhood on Friday in plain view of the media. They were brought to a military post nearby so they could be questioned. Three males had reportedly passed away that evening: Mohammad Safeer, Showkat Hussain, and Reyaz Ahmad.
To demand justice for victims, the National Conference and Apni Party staged rallies against the deaths of civilians. In a news conference, Mehbooba Mufti, the PDP leader and former chief minister, stated that several villagers who were arrested for questioning had injuries and that the corpses of the victims bore evidence of torture.
According to sources, the region’s internet cutoff was also required after a video of individuals being assaulted and tormented went viral. On Thursday, terrorists on the Bafliaz-Thanamadi route targeted two army trucks, resulting in the deaths of four troops and the injuries of three more. Despite the commencement of a huge counterterrorism operation, it seems that terrorists have managed to evade capture by using the hazardous terrain and deep woodlands.
The terrorist organization People Anti-Fascist Front, also known as PAFF, which is a front for Lashkar e Toiba, took credit for the attack and published images of it that showed them using body cameras to record the shootout. It’s well known that the PAFF uses footage from body cameras for propaganda. There is a hunt going on for the terrorists.
PAFF assaulted an army truck in Poonch in April and recorded it on camera. Numerous residents were detained by police and security services following the incident. Mukhtar Hussain Shah, who claimed to have been harassed and humiliated by security personnel, committed suicide. In a video message he left before passing away, Shah urged people to support the army in its battle against terrorism.
