Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan recently made his acting debut in Maharaj, receiving widespread praise from critics and audiences, especially for holding his ground alongside veteran actor Jaideep Ahlawat. However, in an interview with NDTV Yuva, Junaid candidly admitted that being Aamir Khan’s son likely helped him secure the role. “If I wasn’t Aamir Khan’s son, I would probably not have gotten Maharaj,” he shared.
Despite his family connection, Junaid revealed he faced several rejections before landing the role in Maharaj. He even auditioned for his father’s film Laal Singh Chaddha, but was rejected. Junaid explained, “The film was budgeted at a level where you wouldn’t cast a new actor as the lead. So, I wasn’t selected for that film.” Reflecting on the ups and downs of an acting career, he said, “Sometimes you get parts, and sometimes you don’t. I auditioned for roles before Maharaj, but they didn’t work out at the time.”
Directed by Sidharth P Malhotra and produced by Yash Raj Films, Maharaj stars Junaid Khan alongside Jaideep Ahlawat and Shalini Pandey, with a special appearance by Sharvari. The film is available for streaming on Netflix.
Looking ahead, Junaid is set to collaborate with Khushi Kapoor in a film directed by Advait Chandan, known for Secret Superstar and Laal Singh Chaddha. The project, backed by a major production house, is slated for release on February 7, 2025.
