Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025: India-China Resume Pilgrimage with Direct Flight Access

Devotees have good news! According to plans jointly announced by China and India, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra pilgrimage is scheduled to resume in the summer of 2025. There are plans to launch direct flights between the two countries for the trip. On Monday, the ruling was released to the public. For those unaware, 2025 will also mark the 75th anniversary of India and China’s diplomatic ties being established.

About Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

The declaration comes after Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met and discussed several topics, including the Yatra’s restart. Due in significant part to the COVID-19 epidemic and continuous border disputes, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, a major holy pilgrimage for Hindus, has been suspended since 2020.

Both parties are currently concentrating on repairing relations and promoting collaboration in several areas after the disengagement procedure between the two nations in eastern Ladakh was finished more than two months ago. During the meeting, the two officials also discussed the exchange of hydrological data about transborder rivers.

They decided to hold a first meeting of teams at the expert level to discuss resuming this crucial collaboration, which has been put on hold for a while. To manage common water resources and reduce the possibility of flooding and water shortages in both nations, hydrological data must be exchanged.

Direct flights

The two sides agreed to restore direct air connectivity between China and India in addition to the pilgrimage and hydrological talks. The two countries have now decided to draft a new air travel agreement after suspending direct flights in 2020.

Both countries view this as a chance to strengthen their public diplomacy initiatives and enhance their understanding. To sustain and mend their relationship in the upcoming years, both nations should prioritize people-centred policies, according to Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

The return of direct flights and the restart of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra represent a renewed commitment on both sides to improve collaboration and forge a more solid, long-lasting partnership. This is anticipated to improve the two countries cultural and economic relations.
