Kajol has long mastered the sari’s dual nature, embracing new interpretations that showcase the drape’s limitless versatility while also paying homage to nostalgia in heritage weaves. Her most recent performance at the 2025 Global Excellence Awards confirmed this innate ability to change herself. She wore a beige Shantnu & Nikhil sari gown styled by Aastha Sharma for the event. The outfit focused on architecture rather than ornament to make its statement, proving that drama doesn’t always require embellishment.

The gown’s contrast of structure and fluidity, depicted in a subdued nude color scheme, was striking. Every pleat and fold was expertly placed to produce a second-skin look and give the theatrical element that a red carpet requires. A corseted bodice that was tightened at the waist and swept diagonally across the torso fell into a waterfall of pleats. Before descending into a cascade reminiscent of a sari, a one-shoulder neckline reinforced with strong boning provided sculptural complexity. It added a distinctive Shantnu & Nikhil edge to the sari-gown.

While adhering to the duo’s philosophy of rethinking ceremonial dress for a global stage, this item democratized its wearability in contrast to the traditional sari, which demands a particular knowledge of draping.

Minimal accessories were used to highlight the silhouette. Nidhi Bhandari’s heels finished the costume, and Sharma accessorized it with Diosa Paris drop earrings and rings and a Mozaati™ bracelet.

Kajol’s makeup emphasized her radiant skin, lightly sculpted cheekbones, and defined eyes. A striking cherry lip created a striking contrast to the muted background. The balance was strengthened by her hair, which was styled in a loose bun. The styling and ensemble worked together to support the idea that less is more when it comes to elegance.
