A recent comment by Kamal Haasan at a Thug Life event, where he asserted that “Tamil gave birth to Kannada,” has ignited a significant controversy, prompting the South superstar to declare his refusal to apologize unless convinced of his error. As the debate escalated, Haasan also implored individuals not to “tamper” with his way of life.
Following this, Karnataka Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi issued a stark warning: Kamal Haasan’s films would face a ban in Karnataka if he failed to apologize for his remarks concerning the Kannada language. Tangadagi further indicated that this decision had been made by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC).
Concurrently, KFCC president M Narasimhalu revealed that theatre owners and film distributors in the state had independently opted against screening Kamal Haasan’s movies until an apology is issued.
The KFCC formalized its stance on Thursday, announcing that Kamal Haasan’s film Thug Life would be barred from release in Karnataka unless he publicly apologizes for his controversial comment about the Kannada language by May 30.
