Kangana Ranaut recently voiced her perspective on the contentious themes of drugs, alcohol, and violence in music, emphasizing the shared accountability of both society and the government. Speaking at an event, she responded to questions about potentially addressing this issue in Parliament by shedding light on the balance between creative freedom and societal responsibility.
Kangana Ranaut underscored the importance of artistic freedom, stating, “Artistic expression is not dependent on anything. Himachal folk music has so many such songs. In art, it’s the emotions that matter. To each their own.”
However, she also highlighted the dual responsibility in addressing harmful habits like substance abuse, explaining that both public awareness and government policies play a critical role in shaping a healthier culture.
The topic has also been at the center of controversy involving Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh. During his Hyderabad concert as part of the Dil-Luminati Tour, Diljit faced a request to avoid performing songs referencing alcohol. A teetotaler himself, Diljit responded by stating he would willingly stop singing such tracks if liquor shops were closed across India.
