Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut whose upcoming movie, Emergency’s release got postponed, has recently sold her Pali Hill bungalow in Bandra, Mumbai, for ₹32 crore. The property, previously used as the office for her production house, Manikarnika Films, has been a topic of controversy. Kangana had purchased the bungalow in September 2017 for ₹20.7 crore and took a ₹27 crore loan against it from ICICI Bank in December 2022.
Last month, a real estate-focused YouTube channel shared a video showcasing a production house office up for sale. Although the owner and name of the production house were not disclosed, images and visuals from the video suggested it was Kangana’s office. This speculation gained traction as several social media users guessed that the property belonged to her.
The video description provided additional details about the bungalow, stating that it includes the land it is built on, with a plot size of 285 square meters and a construction area of 3,042 square feet. The property also has an additional parking space of 500 square feet and consists of two floors. It was initially listed for ₹40 crore.
This bungalow came under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) scanner in 2020. In September 2020, BMC demolished parts of the property, citing illegal construction, but the demolition was halted after the Bombay High Court issued a stay order on September 9, 2020. Kangana later filed a case against BMC, seeking ₹2 crore in compensation, but dropped the demand in May 2023.
The sale of the property coincides with the anticipation surrounding Kangana’s upcoming film, Emergency. Originally slated for release on September 6, the movie has been postponed due to delays in receiving certification from the censor board. The film has faced boycott calls from several Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akal Takht, who allege that it portrays the Sikh community negatively and demands a ban on its release.
Let’s see when Emergency will get released now.
