Kangana Ranaut, never one to shy away from expressing her unfiltered thoughts, recently turned her attention toward what she sees as a worrying lapse in awareness among today’s youth. The actress and politician re-shared a viral video in which several young girls were asked to name the President of India. The responses were not only incorrect but also highlighted a startling lack of familiarity with the country’s top constitutional post.
The video, originally posted in April by the Instagram handle Gen Z Pulse, features a street interview where an anchor poses a seemingly simple question: “Who is the President of India?” The answers ranged from vague guesses to outright blunders. One girl admitted, “I forgot his name,” mistakenly referring to the President as male. Another fumbled, “Murunali, I don’t know. Murunu or something,” showing a clear confusion about President Droupadi Murmu’s name. Some others gave incorrect answers like Ram Nath Kovind, while one confidently named Jawaharlal Nehru — India’s first Prime Minister — as the President, justifying it by saying the question wasn’t specific enough about the current officeholder.
This display of ignorance didn’t sit well with Kangana, who took to her Instagram stories to voice her disappointment. Sharing the video, she wrote, “War won’t kill us but grasshopper brain cell generation surely will.” The comment, sharp and metaphorical, referenced not just the clip but also broader concerns, possibly alluding to recent India-Pakistan border tensions as a backdrop to her frustration.
Through her post, Kangana Ranaut spotlighted a deeper issue she perceives with the younger generation — a lack of basic general knowledge and civic understanding. Her critique, though pointed, has reignited discussions online about the role of education, digital distractions, and the apparent disconnect some youths have with their nation’s political framework.
