Online scams have become alarmingly frequent in the digital age, with social media and digital payments making individuals vulnerable to fraud. Even Bollywood celebrities are not immune to such schemes, as filmmaker Karan Johar recently disclosed in a viral clip from the Con-versation Podcast. He revealed that a well-known actress was duped out of Rs 82,000 by fraudsters masquerading as Instagram salespersons.
Karan refrained from naming the actress but described her as a “famous friend” who fell for an enticing offer while preparing for an international film festival. One night, while scrolling through Instagram, she came across a limited edition designer outfit originally priced at Rs 4.5 lakh but offered for just Rs 82,000. Tempted by the deal, she reached out to the seller, who claimed it was the last piece available and urged her to make an immediate purchase.
Excited by the opportunity, she requested additional photos of the gown and, upon receiving detailed images, promptly transferred the amount via her UPI ID. However, the gown never arrived. Despite multiple follow-ups for delivery or a refund, the fraudsters disappeared, leaving her with nothing.
As the story spread across social media, netizens speculated about the identity of the actress. Reddit users debated the possibilities, with some suggesting names like Kiara Advani or Alia Bhatt, while others dismissed the theory, arguing that such high-end stars wouldn’t resort to discounted purchases on Instagram.
Others pointed fingers at Kajol, while skeptics dismissed the story as a mere publicity stunt. Some users even accused the podcast of being part of a scripted advertisement, questioning the plausibility of a top actress making payments directly through UPI.
Meanwhile, Karan Johar remains busy with his upcoming film Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, starring Kartik Aaryan and reportedly Ananya Panday. While Kartik’s role has been officially confirmed, Ananya’s involvement is yet to be formally announced.
