After mosquitoes in Chikkaballapur, near Bengaluru, tested positive for Zika, the Karnataka Health Department is on alert. Health authorities have conducted special briefings and given officers specific instructions to alleviate the situation early on.

The state health agency reported testing mosquitoes for Zika virus in 68 locations. Chikkaballapura district samples were gathered from six locations.

The Zika virus was identified in mosquitoes in Talakayalabetta village, Sidlaghatta taluk. After the outbreak, health officials took urgent efforts to contain the infection.

Officers transported 30 pregnant women and seven feverish people’s blood samples to Bengaluru for testing. Samples were taken from settlements within five miles of Talakayala Betta.

The officers individually assessed Venkatapura, Dibburahalli, Bachchanahalli, Vaddahalli, and others. Zika was found in Chikkaballapura district, according to health officer Mahesh Kumar.

About 5,000 people in the region are under health surveillance.

Zika is a mosquito-borne virus that can cause several symptoms. Infected daytime Aedes mosquitoes spread it. The virus was discovered in Uganda’s Zika Forest in 1947.
