Kiran Rao has finally reacted to her divorce with Aamir Khan. She says she still lives in the same building and has a good relationship with his family.
Kiran Rao is preparing for her March 1, 2024 film Laapataa Ladies. Its director Kiran Rao and star cast are touring the country to promote the film. In an exclusive interview with India TV while promoting in New Delhi, she revealed a long-hidden chapter of her life. The filmmaker discussed her divorce from Aamir Khan and how they remain close.
Kiran Rao said societal issues were minor, but convincing families was difficult. She stated her divorce was different from most since she would remain close to Aamir Khan like a family. Kiran wanted to raise their son together, so they still live as a family in the same building and have a close relationship. This divorce has a different connotation, therefore they’re still together.
Kiran explained, “Yes, we had to tell the families that this divorce is fully different since we won’t take a break or never meet or live together again. It was most crucial to convince the families because society could not be explained or changed, but for us staying friends was natural. We have a son, work together, live in the same building, and get along with Reena, Junaid, and Ayra, so we never thought this would be a big deal. Many in society considered it weird and different. People have realized that this is feasible because how can you break a relationship completely? They have never seen this. We found it normal, and now society will too.”
Conclusion
Despite social hurdles, Laapataa Ladies director Kiran Rao says she remains close to Aamir Khan like a family after their divorce, which is fully different. Rao and Khan live together in the same building to be there for their son whenever he needs them both. They work together, have a son, and get along with Reena, Junaid, and Ayra. Rao said they were naturally buddies and that society now understands this. Rao’s divorce has changed her life, and she hopes society will accept such relationships.
