KL Rahul appears to be back in contention for India’s T20I squad, with strong indications pointing towards his inclusion for the upcoming Bangladesh series in August. His current form in IPL 2025, where he has been a standout performer for Delhi Capitals, is being seen as a key factor behind this renewed interest. Over the course of 11 innings, Rahul has amassed 493 runs at a strike-rate of 148.04, notching up a century and three half-centuries.
It has been a while since Rahul donned the Indian jersey in the shortest format. His last T20I appearance came in November 2022 during India’s T20 World Cup semifinal loss to England. That game saw him score just five runs at a run-a-ball pace while opening the innings. His overall performance in that tournament—128 runs at a strike-rate of 120.75—led to his exclusion from the squad.
However, with the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel currently reviewing options for India’s six-match white-ball tour of Bangladesh, Rahul’s name has re-entered the conversation. According to a report in The Times of India, he is now being seriously considered for a return to the T20I format, which will feature three ODIs and three T20Is on the tour.
Since his T20I debut in June 2016, KL Rahul has built an impressive record in the format. He has scored 2,265 runs at a strike-rate of 139.12 in 72 matches, with two centuries and 22 fifties to his name. His current form suggests he could add significantly to those numbers if given another opportunity on the international stage.
