Lenovo teased a rollable smartphone and a laptop prototype at the 2023 Mobile World Congress. Even though the manufacturer has been exhibiting them for a while, you might soon be able to purchase one.
Well-known tipster Evan Blass posted images of what he thinks may be Lenovo’s first commercial laptop with a rollable display on Substack. He continued by saying that the Chinese tech giant will announce the “sixth generation Lenovo ThinkBook Plus” at the Consumer Electronics Show in January of next year and then sell it in stores.
Lenovo’s 2023 concept prototype, which expanded upward to expose a larger screen, might remind you of this device. On the right side of the chassis was a unique flip switch that, when flipped, triggered the laptop’s motors to spin and roll out a screen from underneath. It took little over ten seconds to extend the 15.3-inch display fully.
As can be seen in the picture, a video is playing on the top half of the screen while a paper fills the bottom half. The laptop will also come with the unique Copilot key that Microsoft unveiled earlier this year and some AI functions.
Although Blass did not disclose the device’s technical specs, it would be intriguing to observe whether Lenovo’s rollable laptop will be a mid-range entertainment device or appeal to hardcore users. When Lenovo unveiled its proposal for a rollable laptop last year, the main concern was whether the screen would hold up to regular use.
