Lok Sabha’s Tough Call: Lok Sabha Takes a Stand, Benches 14 Opposition Members

They were suspended for showing “disrespect for the chair’s directions,” according to early reports. The Lok Sabha Speaker suspended 14 opposition members of parliament on Thursday due to their disruptive actions. Nine from the Congress, two from the CPIM, two from the DMK, and one from the CPI are among them. The opposition has been seeking a reply from Union Home Minister Amit Shah since the security lapse that occurred in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

TN Prathapan, Hibi Eden, Dean Kuriakose, Jothi Mani, and Ramya Haridas are the five members of the Congress party whose suspension from the Lok Sabha was initially imposed for the duration of the winter session of Parliament for their “utter disregard to the chair’s directions.”

This house has duly noted the behavior of TN Prathapan, Hibi Eden, S Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, and Dean Kuriakos, who have shown complete disdain for the house of the chair. The union minister of parliamentary affairs, Pralhad Joshi, declared amid opposition MPs’ sloganeering that “the above-mentioned members should be suspended from the service of the house for the remainder of the session.”

Nine opposition party parliamentarians were later suspended. The individuals in question are K Subrahmanyam, SR Parthiban, S Venkatesan, Mohammad Jawed, PR Natarajan, Benny Behanan, and Kanimozhi Karunanidhi.

The action was taken just hours after Derek O’Brien, a TMC Rajya Sabha MP, was suspended for his “unruly” behavior in the chamber. The Leader of the House, Piyush Goyal, presented a resolution in this respect, and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar suspended the TMC MP for the rest of the session.

Later, Dola Sen, a TMC MP, criticized Derek O’Brien’s actions. The opposition is responsible for bringing up the matter since it pertains to national security. This issue would not have happened if the Home Minister had spoken in the House. Since it is our right as opponents to bring up the matter, we went to the Well and made signs. They are free to suspend us for it if they want,” she remarked.

Congressman Pramod Tiwari suggested that the Chairman reevaluate his choice.

What use does it serve if Members of Parliament don’t speak up? Two individuals broke through the security at the Temple of Democracy, using a BJP MP as a conduit. “A bomb found its way into the House, be it a color bomb or a smoke bomb,” Tiwari said.

From the visitors’ gallery, two trespassers sprang into the Lok Sabha chamber during a sitting. Afterward, they unlocked a canister of smoke, but the parliamentarians eventually overwhelmed them. They’ve been taken into custody. Opposition party lawmakers have blasted the administration for the security lapse and are calling for a statement from Shah. Additionally, they want to take legal action against BJP MP Pratap Simha, whose endorsement allowed the two of them to enter the Lok Sabha.
