Mahavatar Narsimha Crosses ₹300 Cr, Beats Sooryavanshi & The Kerala Story

Despite having a budget of only ₹40 crore, Mahavatar Narsimha has performed remarkably well at the box office. Despite initially having low expectations, Ashwin Kumar’s debut film has subsequently gone on to shatter records. With no indications of slowing down, Mahavatar Narsimha has now surpassed ₹300 crore at the worldwide box office five weeks after its premiere.

By the end of Thursday, the 35th day of its run, Mahavatar Narsimha has earned ₹238.25 crore net (₹282.50 crore gross) in India. The film is still finding an audience in theaters and managed to earn over ₹18.50 crore in its fifth week, even as War 2 and Coolie No. 1 also played in theaters alongside. The movie has earned a little over $3 million abroad, primarily in locations with a strong Indian expatriate population. Its current global gross is just under ₹310 crore. It is by far the highest-grossing animated film in India. Next comes Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan, which made only ₹30 crore globally.

The movie has even outperformed the box office receipts of Disney, Sony, and Marvel animated films in India. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse comes in second with ₹56 crore.

Mahavatar Narsimha beat live-action hits

Mahavatar Narsimha’s ₹310 crore box office receipts have allowed it to surpass live-action blockbusters and become India’s highest-grossing animated feature. By the conclusion of its fifth week, Mahavatar Narsimha had topped the lifetime earnings of other previous blockbusters, such as The Kerala Story (₹304 crore) and Sooryavanshi (₹300 crore).
