Mahua Moitra’s Controversy: Will She Be Disqualified?

Mahua Moitra instance of cash-for-query: The Lok Sabha’s Ethics Committee will convene tomorrow, November 7, to discuss and approve its draft report about the purported “cash-for-query” accusation made by BJP member Nishikant Dubey against TMC MP Mahua Moitra.Adopting the draught report during the meeting essentially signifies that the committee, led by BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar, has completed its investigation and will now provide an update.

The panel is likely to propose severe punishments against Moitra, which might include disqualification for the remaining Lok Sabha sessions.

A source claims that the panel may have been inspired by a comparable cash-for-query instance from 2005, in which all 11 members of parliament were removed for allegedly accepting payments in return for their questions.

On November 2, opposition lawmakers claimed that the head of the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee had questioned TMC MP Mahua Moitra about the subject in a personal and unprofessional manner.

Along with Moitra, all five members of the ethics committee walked out of the meeting on November 2, claiming that Sonkar had asked her inappropriate and intimate questions about her phone calls, hotel stays, and trips. In order to clarify the accusations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and attorney Jai Anant Dehadrai, Moitra was called before the committee. Moitra said on Sunday that the BJP is preparing “criminal cases” against her, following her appearance before the Ethics Committee a few days earlier.

Moitra posted on X, saying, “Knowing that the BJP is preparing to file criminal charges against me makes me shiver.” I greet them and let them know that before they inquire about the number of pairs of shoes I own, the CBI and ED must file a formal complaint against Adani for the Rs. 13,0000 crore mining scam.

She further tweeted: “Also BJP – remember, I have an EXACT transcript of the record in the Ethics Committee verbatim before you push out women MPs with a fake narrative.” My complaints, the opposition’s protests, and the chairman’s cheap, vulgar, pointless questions were all there in official black and white.”In exchange for money laundering, industrialist Darshan Hiranandani allegedly asked Moitra to pose questions in the Lok Sabha that were directed against the Adani Group, according to BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.Dubey claims that Hiranandani filed questions from several locations, notably Dubai, using her parliamentary login ID. Although Moitra acknowledges that he used her login information, he has disputed any financial implications, claiming that the majority of MPs exchange their login information with other parties.
