Maldivian President Muizzu requested China to encourage tourism despite Indian tourist cancellations. He commends China’s Belt and Road Initiative infrastructure.
On Tuesday, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu urged China to “intensify” efforts to send more tourists to his country after Indian tourists canceled reservations over his ministers’ derogatory remarks about Narendra Modi during a diplomatic row.
Muizzu called China the Maldives’ “closest” ally during the Maldives Business Forum in Fujian Province on Tuesday, the second day of his five-day state visit to China.
“China remains one of our closest allies and development partners,” said he.
His address said the 2014 Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping “delivered the most significant infrastructure projects witnessed in Maldivian history”.
