The nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would succeed his aunt as Chief Minister, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) spokesperson announced on Monday. Speaking to the media at Chuchura, in the Hooghly district, Ghosh announced that Mamata Banerjee will hold her position until 2036, at which point her nephew Abhishek Banerjee will take over.

“We are officially declaring that Abhishek Banerjee will serve as our general and that Mamata Didi will lead us in the campaign. A TMC spokeswoman stated: “She will serve as a CM until 2036, at which point Abhishek will inherit the position. He also wanted to put an end to “rumors” that TMC’s internal dynamics were in disarray. Declaring, “All those daydreaming to capture West Bengal will be unable to meet their quest,” Ghosh launched a savage attack on the opposition.

You’ll notice that TMC is ultimately one unit fighting against disruptive influences. The party is a cohesive entity. But the Bengal BJP needs to choose its leader for the fight. Which BJP will win—that of Dilip Ghosh, Sukanta Majumder, or Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition? However, they need to be aware that TMC will enter the fight as a single, cohesive entity,” Ghosh continued.

Ghosh’s remarks coincide with the ongoing discussion in West Bengal’s political circles over the “young generation of politicians vs. old guard.” However, he later clarified, “I am not blaming anyone. Veterans and seniors are very important due to their experience.”

Reacting to Abhishek Banerjee’s statement, Mamata Banerjee said that age is not a barrier within the party.

She further called on the younger generation to respect the elders in the party and urged senior politicians to welcome the youngsters.

“We are all equals,” she said as the party is said to be facing purported discord among veterans (who are said to be CM Banerjee loyalists) and youngsters (generally believed to be close to her nephew Abhishek Banerjee).

Speaking at TMC’s administrative meeting at Netaji Indoor Stadium earlier this month, Mamata Banerjee said, “The younger generation of politicians should respect the old guard.” Saugata da (Roy) says at times that he has got old. At what age? The heart has no age. As long as we are alive, we will fight like the royal Bengal tiger.
