The Kerala government has started a road safety program titled as “Safe Kerala” under which several CCTV cameras have been installed on roads for keeping an eye that traffic rules are followed properly by the citizens and to punish them who are breaking the traffic rules.
However, these cameras have brought a storm in the life of a couple from Thiruvananthapuram as the husband was caught driving the scooter without helmet on the roads of the city with a female friend on April 25.
The notice regarding the traffic violation with photographs was sent to the wife by the Motor Vehicle Department as the scooter is registered in her name.
After seeing the message and photos, the wife questioned her hubby about the female pillion rider, the 32 years old husband who works in a textile shop refused to identify the woman and said that he just gave lift to that woman.
The wife refused to believe him which resulted in an argument and on May 5, she filed a police complaint against the husband, alleging that he physically abused her and their three years old son. The police arrested the husband and he was sent to judicial custody by the court.
On the other hand, opposition political parties are accusing the ruling party of corruption in the installation of cameras under the project of Safe Kerala.
