Manipur’s Suspected IED Blast Leaves 3 Injured, as Fresh Firing Echoes

The violence-affected area of Irengbam village in Manipur’s Bishnupur district is patrolled by security troops.

As new acts of violence persisted in the state ripped apart by ethnic strife, at least three persons were hurt in a suspected IED explosion in a parked car on Wednesday evening in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.

An explosion happened in a Mahindra Scorpio car that was parked on the road at Kwakta in the Bishnupur district. Security personnel were informed by eyewitnesses that the incident occurred shortly after the driver had parked the car at a tunnel on the main road at around 7.15 p.m.

Three accident victims were brought to the Bishnupur district hospital. Around 7:15 pm, a Scorpio that was parked in Kwakta, a neighborhood in Bishnupur district, exploded in what was probably an IED explosion.

Witnesses claimed that the vehicle had been empty prior to the explosion and that they had seen the driver get out.

The event occurred only hours before the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) declared Union Home Minister Amit Shah will call an all-party conference on June 24 in New Delhi to review the situation in the state, which has been rocked by ethnic violence that have cost more than 110 lives.

In midnight on Tuesday, there were shooting occurrences in Sugnu, and on Wednesday, there were more shooting incidents in the Kangpokpi neighborhood.
