Mumbai Indians faced a major setback as the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed on Wednesday, February 12, that their star spinner, Allah Ghazanfar, will be sidelined for at least four months due to an injury. The young sensation, who suffered the setback while representing Afghanistan in Zimbabwe last year, will be unable to travel to India for the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
Ghazanfar, an 18-year-old mystery spinner with one Test and 11 ODIs to his name, was a highly anticipated addition to the Mumbai Indians squad after being signed for a hefty Rs 4.80 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He was expected to play a crucial role under Hardik Pandya’s leadership, making his absence a significant loss for the franchise.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board officially announced the news on X, also confirming that Ghazanfar will miss the Champions Trophy 2025. His injury has not only impacted Mumbai Indians plans but has also left Afghanistan national team with a major void ahead of the global tournament. With IPL 2025 just around the corner, Mumbai Indians will now have to rethink their spin strategy as they search for a suitable replacement.
