The Pakistan cricket team is once again getting slammed a lot as they have lost the match against South Africa which was played at Chepauk stadium, Chennai. This was a do-or-die match for Pakistan and the Pakistani cricketers did try their best to win the match but in the end, it was South Africa that managed to clinch the victory in the nail-biting encounter.
If we have to sum up the match, then the toss was won by Pakistan and it decided to bat first. Batting first, Pakistan could score only 270 runs as the whole team got out in 46.4 overs and it was not a good score against the strong batting lineup of South Africa.
However, Pakistani bowlers left no stone unturned in restricting the Proteas under 270 but still Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi managed to make their team win the match.
The former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram was also not happy with the team’s performance and he also talked about a couple of wrong decisions made by the Pakistani skipper Babar Azam.
On a cricket show, Wasim Akram stated, “Couple of mistakes, I think, and this is my opinion. When a team performs badly, it is quite normal to be critical of them. The last over that Nawaz got, Usama Mir had two overs left. Who was bowling better between them? Usama Mir. Who was likely to baffle the tail-enders with his mystery, leg-spin and googly? Usama Mir.”
Wasim Akram further added, “It’s true that his (Usama Mir) first three-four overs weren’t up to the mark but he came back strongly and picked up two wickets for 45 runs in his eight-over spell. There were three overs left at the time. If Usama had bowled the 48th over, Nawaz would’ve bowled the penultimate over and the final over would have gone to Usama Mir. The rest of the captaincy calls were alright.
You bowled your main bowlers and picked up wickets. But I couldn’t understand why Nawaz got that (48th) over. He bowls with a slingy action and his deliveries are supposed to drift down leg after pitching. That, I think, was a massive mistake by our captain.”
Do you agree with Wasim Akram?
