Meghna Gulzar Finally Admits That Deepika’s JNU Visit Made Chhapaak A Flop

Meghna Gulzar, the Bollywood director who is all set for the release of her next movie, Sam Bahadur which stars Vicky Kaushal in the lead role, has given an interesting statement regarding her last movie, Chhapaak.

Chhapaak was based on the real life story of an acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal and Deepika Padukone played the lead role in this film. Chhapaak released in 2020 and at that time, many were protesting against the CAA-NRC and just 3 days before the release of the movie, Deepika Padukone made a sudden visit to Jawaharlal Nehru University campus where the student leaders were addressing a gathering. Though Deepika didn’t say anything, her visit caused a lot of uproar and Meghna Gulzaar feels that this visit adversely affected her movie’s business.

When Meghna was asked if she feels Deepika Padukone’s visit to JNU had a bad effect on her movie, she minced no words and stated, “I am sure that the answer is pretty obvious. Yes, of course, it made a dent on the film. Because the conversation went from acid violence, which I intended the film to amplify, to somewhere else. So, of course it impacted the film. There is no denying that.”

Sam Bahadur is slated to release on 1 Dec and it will clash with Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal. Sam Bahadur is based on the life of India’s first Field Marshal, Sam Manekshaw and the movie is mostly based on Sam’s role in 1971 India-Pak war after which Bangladesh came into existence.
