Due to a technical glitch, Facebook, Instagram, and Meta-owned Threads were down on Tuesday.
Starting earlier in the day, the outage has affected several platform functions, leaving many users angry and unable to connect.
User reports of getting logged out of Facebook and having trouble logging in have been common. Some Instagram users have trouble refreshing their feeds, loading stories and comments. Meta’s Threads messaging app is inaccessible and displays an error warning upon launch.
The extensive interruption sparked reports on DownDetector, a website that detects internet service disruptions, for all three platforms. Meta did not address the spike in user complaints for a while.
Responding to users’ worries, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone tweeted. “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. Currently working on this.”
This tweet followed many user complaints about being unable to login their accounts or use the services. Many people lost access to their social media platforms due to the outage.
Meta’s representative said the business is working to resolve the technical issues, but the extent and reason are unknown. Official channels should shortly provide more information on the outage and its predicted duration.
