Mexican mayor marries crocodile in centuries-old ritual to bring good fortune
There have been instances in which we have seen that a boy or girl is married to a dog or a tree in order to get rid of bad spirits or if the people around them believe that they are cursed and after marrying to a dog, that curse will pass on to the dog.
In a similar recent incident, the mayor of Mexico got married to a female crocodile as part of an ancient ritual which is believed to bring good fortune for the community.
Victor Hugo Sosa, the mayor of San Pedro Huamelula tied knot with Alicia Adriana (female crocodile) in a traditional ceremony and the crocodile was a symbol of a princess girl in a local lore. During the ritual which has been practiced for 230 years, Victor Hugo Sosa stated, “I accept responsibility because we love each other. That is what is important. You can’t have a marriage without love… I yield to marriage with the princess girl.”
The chronicler of the town, Jaime Zarate told the media, “The wedding allows the sides to link with what is the emblem of Mother Earth, asking the all-powerful for rain, the germination of the seed, all those things that are peace and harmony for the Chontal man.”
The wedding took place at the town hall and the mayor also planted a kiss on the crocodile’s snout at the end of the ceremony.
