Microsoft to no longer make new Xbox One games; will prioritize Gen 9

Microsoft will stop making new games for Xbox One systems. The company has decided to prioritize Gen 9 hardware.

Microsoft has decided to stop making new games for Xbox One systems in favor of the current hardware generation. The decision was verified by Matt Booty, head of Microsoft’s gaming studios, who said that their teams had moved on to “Gen 9,” referring to the current hardware cycle. Older systems will continue to receive support for current games like Minecraft, but no internal teams will be developing new games for them.

Microsoft will employ its streaming cloud technology to enable Xbox One Gen 8 customers, enabling them to play Gen 9 titles. For Xbox One customers, this strategy guarantees ongoing availability and accessibility.

Microsoft started putting limitations on running game emulators on the Xbox Series X and Series S in April, indicating a move toward emphasizing the most recent hardware capabilities.

The IT giant unveiled a new friend referral scheme for Xbox Game Pass last month. Members of PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate can participate in this campaign and provide a free 14-day trial to up to five friends. However, only friends who have never used Game Pass before can redeem the trial.

The company’s decision to prioritize Gen 9 hardware is consistent with its dedication to enhancing gaming experiences and utilizing cutting-edge technology. Microsoft’s commitment to pushing the limits of gaming on its most recent platforms is shown by the shift in focus, even though Xbox One customers will continue to get continued support for their current games.
