More Indians are opting for love marriages; Know why

According to a poll, Indians are getting married more often for love, mostly due to the changing attitudes of their families.

Weddingwire India, a part of The Knot Worldwide in the US, found that Gen Z and late-20s millennials support love weddings more than other age groups. Delhi had the highest response rate (34%), accounting for the bulk of tier 1 city respondents in the poll. Women outnumbered males in the interviews by a factor of two.

The freedom of young people and their participation in wedding preparation was the cause of an increase in love marriages. According to the research, it was also largely a product of Indian families’ changing mentalities because marriage has historically been a family-inclusive life decision in India.

41% of couples plan their weddings four to six months in advance and 32% in the final one to three months.

72% of Indian couples get engaged six months or fewer before the wedding, compared to other nations. The study found that this reduces wedding planning time.

The article claims that young couples are planning their weddings using internet tools.

Almost every second couple who took part in the poll knew that utilizing internet planning tools, 6 out of the 11 crucial actions, including budgeting, identifying reputable vendors, selecting the ideal ring, and so forth, could be accomplished online. These tools are used by couples for planning, budgeting, locating dependable service providers, reading reviews, and other purposes. In a 2023 survey, it was found that 58% of couples now chose to utilize wedding planning websites to organize their nuptials, up from 47% in 2020, indicating an 11% point rise in usage of wedding technology platforms.
