Muzammil Ibrahim recently shared intriguing details about his potential involvement in Ayan Mukerji’s immensely popular 2013 film, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. The movie, which ultimately starred Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Kalki Koechlin, almost had a different face in the role of Avi, a character famously portrayed by Aditya Roy Kapur.
Ibrahim revealed in an interview with Siddharth Kannan that Ayan Mukerji had him in mind for the character while writing the script. “Ayan liked me a lot. He told me that he was writing Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani keeping me in mind,” Muzammil stated. He clarified that this consideration had nothing to do with his past relationship with Deepika Padukone, stating, “This had nothing to do with her.”
Interestingly, Ibrahim also claimed that he was the one who suggested Deepika’s name for the film. He recounted, “He would often discuss casting with me, if he should take Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif… He would discuss this with me. We were very close. Deepika was the right cast for that film and I told him the same thing.”
However, despite these initial discussions, Muzammil Ibrahim never made it into the final cast. He attributed this to a misunderstanding that arose once casting agents became involved. “What happened was… it went to the casting agents later on. And I hashed it out for a long time because there was a misunderstanding between me and Ayan for a long time as to why he didn’t cast me,” he explained.
Ibrahim further alleged that casting agents played a detrimental role, claiming they prevented him from even receiving the script that Ayan had promised. “Ayan told me that he will give me the script to read. And the casting agents came in the way and what they did, and how they communicated between me and Ayan,” he said. The actor concluded by asserting that casting agents have “their own agendas” and engage in “favouritism,” which ultimately “f**ked up things a lot” between him and the director.
He emphasized, “As long as things were between me and Ayan, we never had a slip. When it came to the casting agents, they did a lot of favouritism.”
Let’s see when Ayan Mukerji will react to it.
