Naatu Naatu: From Gavaskar to Hayden, Jadeja – Cricket greats groove to Oscar winner

As the country hailed the song’s revolutionary success, it also earned honours and applause from other fields such as cricket and politics.

The Oscars are in full swing, and moviegoers are buzzing about Rajamouli’s rousing victory at the 95th Academy Awards in Los Angeles. Oscar fever was also felt on the cricket field, when great batsman Sunil Gavaskar was seen swaying his leg to the popular song.

RRR, directed by Rajamouli, made history in this year’s Oscars when its song Naatu Naatu won Best Original Song. As the country hailed the song’s revolutionary success, it also earned honours and applause from other fields such as cricket and politics.

Sunil Gavaskar and Matthew Hayden, former cricketers turned commentators, were observed emulating Naatu Naatu’s hook steps while discussing the last day of the fourth test match in Ahmedabad.

Gavaskar and his Australian adversary Hayden greeted the Indian film fraternity on the field with a short jig. Another piece of good news is that India has advanced to the World Test Championship (WTC) final after a 2-1 series triumph in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, the spinning pair, too celebrated in style. Naatu Naatu’s Oscar win, along with Team India’s qualifying for the WTC final, was cause for celebration, and the duo didn’t hold back in enjoying the auspicious occasion.

The duo posted a comical video to their Instagram account in which they can be seen having a conversation while acting out a scene from Akshay Kumar’s film and then closing the session with a short dance to the Oscar-winning song.

Both spinners benefited greatly from the Border Gavaskar Trophy, claiming a record number of wickets against the visitors. Both were named the winner of the Player of Series award.

With 25 wickets in the current series, Ashwin has joined a small group of Indian bowlers, while Jadeja has also been in superb form. The Border Gavaskar Trophy’s leading wicket takers were Ashwin (25 wickets) and Jadeja (22).
