Aliya Fakhri, sister of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been arrested in connection with a fire in Queens, New York, that claimed the lives of Edward Jacobs, her ex-boyfriend, and his friend Anastasia Star Ettienne. The fire, which occurred in a two-storey garage, caused the victims to succumb to smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.
Authorities allege that Aliya Fakhri deliberately set the fire. She has been denied bail and charged with multiple counts, including murder.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz described the incident as a deliberate act of malice. “This defendant maliciously ended the lives of two people by setting a fire that trapped a man and woman in a raging inferno,” she stated. “The victims tragically died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries,” according to a report by leading news daily.
While Nargis Fakhri has not commented publicly on the matter, the sisters’ mother has come forward in defense of Aliya. Expressing disbelief at the allegations, she said, “I don’t think she would be killing someone. She was a person who was caring for everybody. She tried to help everybody.”
