Navjot Sidhu Has A Sensible Take On Hardik Pandya Replacing Rohit Sharma As MI Captain

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the two big teams of the IPL, they have jointly won the IPL maximum times (5) and in this season, both the teams saw change in the captaincy.

While MI was led by Rohit Sharma for 10 years, MS Dhoni led CSK since the inaugural edition of 2008 and both the skippers enjoy a huge fan following as well.

The regime change in CSK was pretty smooth as fans are accepting it in a sporting manner but all hell broke loose when the management of MI chose to appoint Hardik Pandya as the new skipper. The MI fans not only slammed the management but they also asked Rohit Sharma to leave the team.

Well, Rohit Sharma is still playing for MI under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya and former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has shed his opinion on this matter.

Sidhu said, “I have played in an Indian team where five captains used to play together – Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Ravi Shastri. Pick up a brick and you will find a captain both above and below it. There were no issues because they were playing for their nation. The motivation was to play for your country. So, playing under Hardik does not make Rohit smaller.”

He further added, “Dhoni has passed the baton already and that could have happened in Mumbai Indians as well. But this is a franchise and they look at the performances. They gave it three years and when it did not work, they got a new person for the job. You need to accept it.”

Sidhu concluded by saying, “Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni are great players. A dwarf is a dwarf even if he is standing at the top of a mountain and a God is a God even if they are standing at the bottom of a well.”

Do you agree with Sidhu?
