A state-of-the-art ropeway will soon allow visitors to travel from Dehradun to Mussoorie in less than 20 minutes! This will be South Asia’s longest passenger ropeway, the Mussoorie Sky Car. This new ropeway will alter travel between the two hill destinations.
Here are five things to be aware of regarding this innovative project:
- From hours to minutes: a game changer in travel time
The 34-kilometer drive from Dehradun to Mussoorie usually takes 90 minutes or longer, especially when there are many tourists. The only practical way to get between the two places is by car because there are no direct train services. All that will change with the new ropeway. The ride will only take 20 minutes because of a 5.2-kilometer mono-cable detachable gondola technology.
- A beautiful ride
The ropeway provides a more luxurious travel experience than just a means of conveyance. The 5.2-kilometer, approximately 1,000-meter-high cable car will give breathtaking sweeping vistas of the Shivalik range, densely forested valleys, and foggy mountain paths.
- An action toward environmentally friendly travel
One of the project’s most notable aspects is its dedication to environmental sustainability. Thanks to its full electrical power, the ropeway will run year-round, lessening the demand for fuel-powered vehicles in the delicate hill habitat. Less traffic on the twisting routes would help reduce carbon emissions and ease the burden on mountain roads prone to landslides and excessive use.
- Technology, safety, and local empowerment
European safety requirements (CEN) are followed when constructing the Mussoorie Sky Car. The gondolas will have weatherproof construction, automatic doors, and ten-person cozy seating. It is built for maximum efficiency during busy seasons and can carry up to 1,300 passengers per hour in each direction. The system’s components would be made in India, promoting domestic production and job growth. Leading French ropeway technology suppliers POMA SAS, FIL Industries, and SRM Engineering are all involved in the partnership.
This ropeway, which is scheduled to be completed in September 2026, has the potential to become a significant tourist destination in and of itself, in addition to being a transit project. Imagine gliding through clouds, avoiding all traffic, and flying over hilltops and forest canopies in just twenty minutes.
The Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway guarantees a fantastic experience, whether you’re a regular commuter or a tourist seeking something different!
