Nikola, an American electric truck maker, will lay off 270 people, 23% of its workforce. The company has decided to concentrate on the North American electric truck market. Nikola also plans to let go of 120 workers who work at its US locations in Phoenix and Coolidge, Arizona, as well as 150 team members who supported the company’s European programs.
There will be roughly 900 workers left after the downsizing. According to the electric truck maker, the layoffs will result in a more than $50 million yearly decrease in cash expenditures connected to employees.
Nikola’s CEO Michael Lohscheller stated, “Our hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle will start manufacturing in a few weeks, and our battery-electric truck is already on the market and serving our customers well. We are actively controlling costs and lowering spending. To effectively carry out our goals, we are simplifying operations, including our organizational structure.”
To preserve “competitiveness” in the market, US-based online meal ordering startup Grubhub has announced the termination of roughly 400 employees, or around 15% of its staff. The corporation cited rising operational and staff costs as the reason for the decision to lay off workers.
