Following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, Bollywood actor Vaani Kapoor’s romance play Abir Gulaal, starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, was put on hold. But instead of releasing Sardaar Ji 3 in India, Diljit Dosanjh chose to release it abroad, starring Hania Aamir. Vaani has now responded to Diljit’s choice to distribute the movie abroad despite requests for a ban in an interview with NDTV.

Vaani spoke about how the situation was different when Diljit’s film was shot. She said, “I am assuming his film was shot before the atrocious attack, and I am assuming, as a producer, his money must have been stuck. I guess around 100 technicians were involved in making the film. The situation was different when the film was shot.”

She further defended Diljit’s decision and said, “I don’t think he was meaning to disrespect the nation. He is a global star… He is looked up to globally. He has taken measures as he thought was suitable. But I don’t think any laws have been broken, right?”

Regarding the Sardaar Ji 3

Pakistani artists were prohibited from performing in India due to the tense tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam incident on April 22, 2025, and Operation Sindoor. But in the midst of all, Diljit unveiled the teaser for Sardaar Ji 3, his eagerly anticipated movie in which Pakistani star Hania Aamir had a significant part. As a result, the producers chose not to distribute the film in India and instead to release it only abroad.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees responded to Diljit’s decision by calling for a ban on his upcoming ventures in India. Several celebrities criticized Diljit for collaborating with a Pakistani actor, including Mika Singh and Abhijeet Bhattacharya.

The film was filmed long before the two nations’ ties soured, the producers and Diljit explained, and the international release was scheduled for June 27. Despite not having been released in India, the movie became the highest-grossing Punjabi film of the year and made nearly ₹50 crore abroad.

Vaani Kapoor’s next film

Vaani’s most recent appearance was in the television series Mandala Murders, which also starred Surveen Chawla and Shriya Pilgaonkar in significant roles. Aparshakti Khurana, Paresh Rawal, Sheeba Chaddha, Richard Bhakti Klein, and Monica Chaudhary all have essential roles in Navjot Gulati’s comic drama Badtameez Gill, in which she will next be featured. The movie’s release date has not yet been set.
