Following India’s convincing win against Bangladesh in the first Test in Chennai, captain Rohit Sharma commended the team’s bowling unit for playing a crucial role in securing the victory. Sharma emphasized the importance of having a versatile bowling attack capable of performing in any condition, both at home and abroad.
“No matter the conditions—whether in India or overseas—we aim to build our team around strong bowling,” Rohit said. He highlighted the team’s readiness to adapt to different pitches and environments, attributing much of their recent success to the bowlers’ contributions.
Ravichandran Ashwin delivered an outstanding performance at his home ground in Chennai, taking center stage with both the bat and ball. Ashwin scored a century in the first innings and followed it up with a six-wicket haul in the second innings, sealing India’s victory.
Rohit acknowledged the bowlers’ responsibility in critical moments, praising them for stepping up when needed. “In the last few years, wherever we have played, we’ve had a balanced bowling attack with both seam and spin options. You have to give credit to the guys—they never shy away from responsibility and always put their hand up to get the job done for the team,” Rohit Sharma added.
With the first Test win in the bag, India will now look forward to the second and final match of the series, scheduled to take place at Green Park in Kanpur on September 27. After the series, India will host New Zealand for a three-match Test series, followed by a tour of Australia where they will defend the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
