The winter season is in full swing in northern India as the temperature has gone down to minus in some cities but one of the biggest concerns is that we are already halfway of January and snowfall hasn’t taken place in the hilly areas.
Many tourists have returned disappointed from Kashmir as there was no snow in the valley and the experts feel that it will not only affect the tourism and hospitality industry but agriculture and other connected activities as well.
Every year a huge number of tourists visit Gulmarg around the New Year eve and the first week of January for enjoying snow related activities but this time, it was a big disappointment for them. A Delhi resident who travelled to Gulmarg told a press agency, “We had booked a seven-day package from January 3 to January 9 in order to enjoy the snow in Gulmarg. But there is no snow. We had expected a white landscape all over the place but it is brown like any other region of north India.”
The tourism industry has been adversely affected and a tour operator said, “This winter has been a very bad advertisement for our trade. Although Kashmir is not the only place that witnessed a lack of snow, our winter tourism mostly depends on snowfall. May Allah have mercy on us.”
Let’s see when these places will have snowfall!
