India and England’s thrilling five-match Test series ended in a 2-2 draw. In the fifth and final Test match at The Oval, the Indian team, captained by Shubman Gill, achieved a historic victory. Mohammed Siraj, a quick bowler, bowled brilliantly in this match, collecting nine wickets in all. He was instrumental in ensuring that India won by a margin of just six runs.
The Indian squad had to deal with multiple player injuries during the series. Vice-captain Rishabh Pant was unable to play in the fifth Test after suffering a thumb injury during the fourth Test while batting. Additionally, injuries kept Arshdeep Singh, Akash Deep, and Nitish Kumar Reddy out of action.
The series produced another injury story that hadn’t been previously reported. Karun Nair, a middle-order batsman, was involved. In the second innings of the fifth Test, he was hit by a quick and bouncy delivery, which is said to have caused a minor fracture in his finger. Nair played a part in the game despite the injury, but he will now miss the following few weeks of action.
This injury is particularly distressing for Karun Nair, who made a comeback to Team India after eight years, as it will keep him out of the Duleep Trophy 2025 for Central Zone. On August 28, a match between North Zone and East Zone is scheduled to kick off the famous event.
During the 2024–25 domestic season, Karun Nair scored 863 runs at an average of 53 for Vidarbha, putting up an outstanding showing. He also scored a century against Kerala in the final, which helped put his team in a great position. After three years, he rejoined the Karnataka squad after obtaining a NOC from the Vidarbha Cricket Association. Fans greatly anticipated his return, but he will now need to take another vacation because of this injury.
